In the first quarter of 2008, the enterprise PC segment in North America was affected by the spreading subprime mortgage crisis, making businesses more conservative in their spending. The financial sector was hit especially hard, with large-scale lay-offs and business reductions, causing expansion and upgrade demand to be limited.
